My first theatre was a collapsible cardboard thing from Pollocks, printed in, mostly, red and it came with Aladdin and the Wonderlamp. The same Aladdin that is still sold today.
My next one was the wooden Regency the one that is also mentioned in Peter Baldwin's book.

I never did perform though, I just cut out the sheets, stuck them in albums or displayed them in the theatre as a sort of glorified reading lamp.

Being an editor and working at that time with the Dutch Television NOS, I was commissioned to make some short movies, I did Blackbeard the Pirate and the Miller and his Men. For the explosion I used magnesium powder which I literally threw on the flame of a candle just outside the camera range.

Of course the theatre almost burned down, the whole room was black with soot and that was only the rehearsal. The effect was magnificent but for months my wife still encountered flocks of black soot.
