Early in '97 Jon Bankert [bankert@att.net]
urged Gigi Sandberg by phone to create a personal website to
display her Toy Theatres, explaining how simply he had done one
for
the Friary with Word Perfect 7. See [http://www.vestpocket.info]
for his Toy Theatre pages. As a result this Web Site
soon surfaced for all to enjoy!
Jon and Gigi actually met for the first time at the Puppeteers of
America
Regional Festival in Virginia in summer 98. . . going together to visit
[Rick Shelley] at the Serenissima
Theatre in Baltimore. (See [Description] ).
This visit was probably the inspiration for the permanent performance
miniature
theatre that Jon is now planning. See the playbills he has sent
us for
his shows: [ The address and
phone in these playbills is historic. See below ]

THE VEST POCKET PLAYHOUSE IS MOVING!
Dear Friends,
Over the course of this summer, the Vest Pocket Playhouse will be
closing its doors at Little Portion Friary in Long Island, and moving
to St. Elizabeth's Friary in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn.
After fifteen years, I have been reassigned by the Society of St.
Francis to live again at St. Elizabeth's Friary. I was one of the
friars who originally purchased an abandoned building from New York
City in the early 1980's, and rebuilt it to become St. Elizabeth's
Friary. So this is something of a homecoming for me.
After appearing at the 17th Preetzer Papiertheatertreffen and the
Hanau Papiertheater Museum in Germany this September, I intend to get
down to business in Brooklyn. I hope to have the Vest Pocket Playhouse
re-established at St. Elizabeth's Friary in time for a Christmas
program.
Thank you all for your support of the Vest Pocket Playhouse over
the years at Little Portion Friary. And I look forward to welcoming you
to the Vest Pocket Playhouse at St. Elizabeth's!
Peace and Blessing,
Jon
