Almost everyone interested in puppetry has also had at least a minimal
contact with Toy Theaters. Many of you own one, usually a memento of a
trip to England (perhaps to Denmark or Germany). Several of you have tried
your hand at making the theater and assembling the players. A smaller number
of you have gone as far as performing to the small audiences that the Toy
Theater is best prepared to address.
After several demonstrations, workshops, and performances over the last
few years a "Toy Theater Informal Underground Coordinating Committee" (I
cant make an acronym out of it) has unanimously decided that it time to
address the question --- is there enough interest to support a more organized
manner for Toy Theater enthusiasts to get news about what's happening and
to exchange ideas? Like a newsletter??
Consequently, this "Volume 00" is not so much of a "newsletter" as it
is what used to be called a "fishing expedition". No brilliantly written
articles, no enlightening how-to-do-it; mainly some Toy Theater trivia
and an attempt to find out what you are interested in. If all goes well
and we get enough returns of the questionnaire, you will receive a more
"formal" newsletter this autumn.
